Valerie and Wesley's Wedding Day *updated*

Valerie just sent us a note that I thought was worth sharing...

Rick~

The pictures are absolutely gorgeous. You guys did an amazing job with everything and I could not have asked for a more perfect day. Thanks also for getting the license to us so quickly...it actually made it here before we did. We are currently working on which pics we want for what... I'm greedy and want to get all of the pics, for different albums and what not.

I will email you within the next day with the photo for the canvas print.

Thanks again,

Valerie

Here's the original post...

We're very proud that so many military couples come here for their weddings. Military families seem to be spread out all over the world, so we're happy when they decide to meet here for such a special occasion.

Congratulations to the happy couple. Thank you from coming to Bluff Mountain for your wedding and reception. We were happy to have you and your family.

Kristi and Tom

We have such a cool job. Every week we get to spend time with happy people who are sharing one of the most important days of their lives with us. And we get to hear the stories and get to know the families, and they get to know us.

So the story on this shot, as I understand it is; Tom's grandfather was on a navy ship. While on the ship they had a lot of time on their hands, so these guys figured out how to take a coin and shape it into a ring by hammering on the coin and rolling around the edges (my crude interpretation, but it's close).

Since Tom's grandfather couldn't be at the wedding, he made the two rings below (one from a quarter and one from a dollar), and Tom's Dad presented the rings to the couple at the reception. Pretty cool stuff. Take a good look at the photo and you can read some of the words from the coin on the inside. Incredible craftsmanship.

The rest of the shots just tell the story of the day. It was a fun story...

I have a feeling Kristi's done some modeling. She was just too easy to photograph!

Then there was another special presentation.

Congratulations to this great couple and their families. We hope you have a happy long life together.

Vicki and Joshua

Congratulations to Vicki and Joshua. A shedding cherry tree gave Amanda some really nice backdrops for shots. It was a beautiful day for a beautiful wedding.

Signs of Spring

Another walk around the property looking for colors. More every day.

Note to all who are coming to our property: Please watch out for our neighbors rambling around. They tend to not look both ways before crossing the road.

Oh, and another sure sign of spring is Robin and Marlon (our master carpenters) working on a new project, in our never ending effort to make Bluff Mountain Inn the premier wedding destination in the Smoky Mountains! We'll let you see the completed projects in a few days. They're really cool...

Greer and Jonathan's Wedding Day

Congratulations to Greer and Jonathan. They had a beautiful lawn wedding last weekend, and a good time was had by all! I believe they had a couple of rental cabins next door and just moved the reception when it was over. Not a bad idea...

Many happy returns... you guys were great. Thanks for choosing us for your big day.

Kristin and Donnie's Rainy Wedding Day

Here's living proof that rainy days don't have to be sad. These guys had a blast! and so did we...

Congratulations to our elopement couple, Kristin and Donnie.

And now for something completely different...

My apologies to a few recent events for not having their posts up yet. Last week, following Saturday weddings, we went on a field trip to Washington D.C.

Sunday was spent driving.. Monday I attended a photography seminar with some really creative photographers from North Carolina. We'll be trying out some new techniques in the weeks to come.

Then on Tuesday we got to play. Off to see a little bit of history, we landed at Mt. Vernon, home of George Washington.
Timing is everything... when we arrived at the tomb of George and Martha, a ceremony was about to begin in honor of the President and his wife.
Being one of the only veterans in the group, I was asked to participate in laying a wreath at the President's tomb. Not something that happens every day, I was honored. The fellow standing next to me is currently in the military. Hard to believe, isn't it?

George and Martha had a pretty cool place there on the Potamic, and we had a great time touring it. I highly recommend seeing this part of history if you're ever in the area. See more on that here http://www.mountvernon.org/

Driving back into DC, we made a stop at the marina where we had lunch and watched the planes land at Regan International. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon...

Then we walked all around the mall taking shots of the monuments and the cherry blossoms. What fun!

Naturally, a bride would appear... and naturally I would take a shot! She was waiting on her photographers, and the groom, to take photos at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.

Just for the record, if anyone's interested in meeting me in DC for a bridal or engagement session at the Jefferson Memorial, let's talk about it...

Then we found a pretty cool place to take night shots of the city.

On our way out of town we made a stop at the National Cathedral for a little inspiration and some photo ops you just don't get every day. Again, the steps would make a great setting for a photo session.. give me a call.

The cathedral runs a great little greenhouse out back. We like to stop there and bring home souviniers to remember our trip and decorate the place. You'll be seeing those pop up in photos in the near future.

It rained all the way home, but we arrived safe and refreshed, and ready for a wedding on Friday. More info on that in the next post.
